"In the past David has competed in the 24 hour Strathpuffer Mountain Bike Race raising £700 for Children In Need, he has also taken a canoe down 70 miles of the River Spey, which is probably the only challenge that he would rush back and do again as it was such good fun!"

This year he has completed the three peaks challenge!

Ben Nevis - Scotland: 1344 metres -  Saturday 7th May, Start 8am - Completed in 4 hours 50mins

Scafell Pike - England: 978 metres - Saturday 7th May, Start 9pm - Completed in 4 hours

Snowdon - Wales: 1085 metres - Sunday 8th May, Start 6am - Completed in 3 hours 50 mins

The distance walked was 25 miles and the height climbed was over 10,000 feet. The distance covered between the mountains was 450 miles.

In total David completed 12 hours and 40mins of hill walking with 4 of these hours in the dark with a head torch on Scafell Pike from 9pm - 1am.

"The three peaks certainly was a challenge; with rain, hail, wind, thunder and lightning. Combined with less than one hours sleep and 450 miles in a cramped mini bus full of 11 sets of wet clothing and muddy boots. There were times when you had to dig deep mainly due to general fatigue, harsh weather and lack of sleep. It was a great experience and I am very grateful for everyones support and generous sponsorship."

He raised £2500.00 between online, cheque and cash sponsors.

The Euan Macdonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a debilitating disease that generally strikes at random in middle age. It leads to muscle weakness and ultimately paralysis, and is usually fatal within a few years. There are approximately 300 people living with MND in Scotland at any given time and there are no effective treatments.

Euan MacDonald, an Edinburgh-born investment banker, was diagnosed with MND in 2003. Since then, he has devoted all his energies to his young family and to fund-raising for MND research.

In 2006, Euan and his father Donald became interested in the diverse group of MND researchers at Edinburgh University. The pair made a generous donation to permit the establishment of the Euan MacDonald Centre for MND Research.

The Centre is committed to providing comprehensive clinical services for MND patients and state-of-the-art research into the causes of MND, and new treatments for this devastating disease.
